Chrome uses far less memory for Gmail

with 2 comments

Gmail tend to consume comparatively more memory in IE and Firefox because of it’s heavy dependency on client side processing using javascript. I have quickly ran a test using all three browsers with their latest version (IE 8 beta 2, Firefox 3, Chrome).

Chrome is using far less memory than other fellow browsers, but I am not surprised because Chrome has inbuilt support for Google Gears and as they said their JavaScript engine is written entirely from scratch.

  1. I don’t believe in miracles, sorry 🙂
In my Chrome’s task manager with only gmail.com website opened I see 3 processes:

    Browser 22,980K
    Tab Gmail 30,840K
    Plugin Shockwave Flash 28,612K

  2. Don’t rely on Window’s Task Manager, rely on Chrome’s built-in task manager instead (Shift-Esc). If you’re a nerd, then use Chrome’s stats for nerds by pasting “about:memory” in the Omnibar.
